How to do the Battle Rope, step by step

  1. Grab one rope end in each hand and drop into a half squat.
  2. Brace your core, back flat.
  3. Drive your arms up and down fast, alternating sides.
  4. Make the waves travel all the way to the anchor.
  5. Keep breathing steadily.

Common mistakes and how to fix them

  • Standing stiff and uprightsoften your knees
  • Too close to the anchorstep back until the rope is almost taut
  • Rounded backchest open, core tight

How to scale the Battle Rope

If you can't do the movement cleanly yet or the workout is too heavy, use one of these variations:

  • Shorter intervals
  • Double-arm, slower waves
  • Stand closer to the anchor

These descriptions are general guidance and don't replace a coach. Have someone at your box show you new movements, and stop if anything hurts.
