BTWB alternative: Kreidebuch vs Beyond the Whiteboard

BTWB offers deep analytics, but it's a subscription. Here's what BTWB does well, when an alternative makes sense and how to take your history with you.

Last checked: October 25, 2026

Short answer: If you use Fitness Level, Imbalances, macros or the Apple Watch, BTWB has things Kreidebuch doesn't. An alternative makes sense if you want the basics without a subscription, strength programs in the same log, or a server in the EU. Kreidebuch imports your BTWB export with Premium.

When a BTWB alternative makes sense

BTWB is a subscription product with a lot of depth. Reasons to look around anyway:

  • You want to log without a subscription. Once a BTWB subscription ends, old results stay readable but you can't log new ones.
  • You're missing formats. Per BTWB's help center, mixed workouts such as For Time plus EMOM only work via notes, and the beta timer doesn't do EMOM yet.

Beyond the Whiteboard (BTWB)

Best for: solo athletes who'll pay for deep analytics, worldwide leaderboards and Apple Watch support.

Beyond the Whiteboard is made by BTWB, LLC in Los Angeles. Besides the log it offers analysis such as Fitness Level and Imbalances, weigh-ins with body fat, and a macro tracker.

Strengths

  • Works without a box, with free public tracks
  • Maxes for 1, 3, 5 and 10RM, Lifts Calculator, Fitness Level and Imbalances
  • Weigh-ins with body fat, lean mass and BMI, plus macros
  • CSV export and imports from SugarWOD and Wodify
  • Apple Watch with timer and heart rate (Tempus, beta)

Limitations

  • No permanent free tier: logging new results needs a subscription
  • The pricing page and a help article list different prices
  • Timer (beta) doesn't support EMOM, built-in rest or strength sets yet, per its help center
  • Mixed formats such as For Time plus EMOM only via notes

Price: Subscription with a 7-day trial. The pricing page lists $9.99 a month or $99 a year; the help article “How much does btwb cost?” lists $7.99 a month or $87 a year. After a subscription ends, old results stay readable but you can't log new ones.

Ratings: App Store US, Oct 25, 2026: 4.56 (1,529 ratings). App Store Germany: 4.22 (134). Google Play US: 4.3 (about 1,470 reviews).
