SugarWOD alternative: Kreidebuch vs SugarWOD

SugarWOD is free for athletes and a fixture in a lot of boxes. Here's where it's strong, when an alternative makes sense and how to take your data with you.

Last checked: October 25, 2026

Short answer: If your box runs on SugarWOD, stay with it: programming, scoreboard and community are free there. An alternative makes sense if you train without a SugarWOD box or want strength training with sets and programs in the same log. Kreidebuch imports your SugarWOD export with Premium.

When a SugarWOD alternative makes sense

SugarWOD is built around the box. That's its strength, and it can also be the reason to switch:

  • You train without a SugarWOD box. It works as an “Independent Athlete”, but you lose the box's programming, scoreboard and community.
  • You want to bring your old data. Per its help center, SugarWOD only imports for whole gyms, not individual athletes.
  • You want strength programs that adjust automatically. SugarWOD logs barbell workouts with percentages; automatic progression after each session isn't among its listed athlete features.

SugarWOD

Best for: members of a box that runs on SugarWOD, and anyone who wants to track benchmarks and barbell PRs for free.

SugarWOD has been part of Daxko LLC (US) since 2019. Boxes use it to publish programming, the daily scoreboard and community features; athletes use the app for free.

Strengths

  • Free for athletes, with or without a box
  • 1,000+ named workouts including the Open, with automatic PR detection
  • Built-in AMRAP, Tabata, EMOM and interval timers
  • Percentage charts and 1RM estimates for barbell lifts
  • Scoreboard, friends feed and comments inside your box

Limitations

  • No German interface per the App Store (English and Spanish)
  • Importing old data only for whole gyms, not individuals
  • Apple Watch is not listed as a supported device in the App Store

Price: $0 for athletes. Boxes pay by number of registered athletes, with a 2-week trial. Marketplace programs cost extra, for example “Mayhem Hybrid Individual” at $14.99 a month.

Ratings: App Store US, Oct 25, 2026: 4.90 (90,828 ratings). App Store Germany: 4.80 (1,613). Google Play US: 4.3 (about 7,770 reviews).
