Strong app alternative: Kreidebuch vs Strong

Strong is a clean, ad-free log for barbell training. Here's what Strong does well, when an alternative makes sense and how to take your data with you.

Last checked: October 25, 2026

Short answer: For a minimal barbell log with Apple Watch and a lifetime purchase, Strong is a solid choice. An alternative makes sense if you want to use the app on a computer, log WODs with a timer or keep your data on a server in the EU. Kreidebuch imports Strong's CSV export with Premium.

When a Strong alternative makes sense

Strong focuses on lifting on your phone. Reasons to look around:

  • You want to plan or review on a computer. Strong only lists iPhone, Android and Apple Watch; there's no web app.
  • 3 custom routines aren't enough. More needs PRO, as do the plate calculator and body part measurements.
  • You do WODs too. We found no built-in AMRAP or EMOM formats in Strong, and its help center search returned nothing.
  • Server location matters to you. Per its privacy policy, data is stored on servers in the US and other countries.

Strong

Best for: barbell training with a few fixed routines, such as 5×5, and a clean interface.

Strong is made by Strong Fitness PTE Limited in Singapore. It's a minimal strength training log; per its privacy policy, data is stored on servers in the United States and other countries.

Strengths

  • No ads, unlimited workouts for free
  • RPE with RIR conversion, set tags, supersets and circuits
  • CSV export that other apps can read
  • Available in German; lifetime purchase available
  • Apple Watch and Apple Health

Limitations

  • Without PRO, max 3 custom routines; plate calculator and body part measurements need PRO
  • No web app
  • Exported files can't be imported back into Strong, per its help center
  • Servers in the US and other countries

Price: Free with limits. Per its US description, PRO costs $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year. The in-app purchase list shows several prices (for example $23.99 and $29.99 a year), so it doesn't tell you which applies today. “Strong PRO Forever”: $79.99 or $99.99.

Ratings: App Store US, Oct 25, 2026: 4.86 (108,535 ratings). App Store Germany: 4.82 (10,134). Google Play US: 4.3 (about 42,800 reviews).

What Kreidebuch does differently

Kreidebuch

Best for: lifts and WODs in one log, on any device.

Kreidebuch is a training log made by The Goodie Company GmbH near Würzburg, Germany. It runs as a web app in the browser and can be added to your home screen. Data is stored on a Hetzner server in Helsinki, Finland.

For context: Strong estimates 1RM with the Brzycki formula, Kreidebuch with Epley. For sets of more than one rep the two give slightly different numbers. Templates and planning are Premium in Kreidebuch.

Strengths

  • Runs in the browser on iPhone, Android and desktop, with your data in sync
  • Sets with weight, RPE, warm-up, drop set and failed attempt, plus a rest timer and plate calculator
  • PRs per lift, estimated 1RM (Epley) and a percentage table
  • WOD formats with a timer and benchmarks in the same log
  • Server in Helsinki (EU)
  • Strong's CSV export is recognized as a set export with Premium

Limitations

  • Not a native app: no Apple Watch app, no Apple Health connection, no vibration on iPhone
  • New, with few users so far
  • No box management software, no class leaderboards or rankings
  • Planning, templates, insights, strength programs and import need Premium

Price: Free with the timer, logging, history, benchmarks, PRs per lift and export. Premium costs €5.99 a month or €53.99 a year. New accounts get a 14-day Premium trial.

Ratings: Kreidebuch isn't listed in the app stores, so it has no store ratings.
